James, Great idea for straightening mono. Bob Popovics showed a class I attended a way to straighten heavy mono (50lb.) that he would then tie reverse bucktail onto, to create a fly as long as ya want it to be. He cut lengths of mono, placed as many as will fit into a piece of pvc tubing with a cap on one end and places it in simmering water. It's a cool technique and made some really sweet baitfish patterns
